What Ozempic is?
Ozempic® (semaglutide) injection 0.5 mg or 1 mg is an injectable prescription medicine used:
- along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.
- to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke or death in adults with type 2 diabetes with known heart disease.
What semaglutide is?
Semaglutide (trade names Rybelsus, Ozempic) is a medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide acts like human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) so that it increases insulin secretion, thereby increasing sugar metabolism. It is distributed as a metered subcutaneous injection in a prefilled pen. One of its advantages over other antidiabetic drugs is that it has a long duration of action, thus, only once-a-week injection is sufficient.
